The U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) will host a webinar to discuss deployment of interoperable transportation systems using ITS Standards. The USDOT has two software tools to support testing and procurement of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Center-to-Field (C2F) and Center-to-Center (C2C) standards-based systems. These tools, the Test Procedure Generator (TPG) and the Center-to-Center Reference Implementation (C2C RI) are intended to fill existing gaps in ITS standards consistency, interoperability, conformance, and development of test documents.

  • The TPG tool guides users in the development of National Transportation Communications for ITS Protocol (NTCIP) C2F Device Interface Standards test procedures allowing for consistent testing and conformance to the standards.

  • The C2C RI Tool tests C2C communications for conformance to the Traffic Management Data Dictionary (TMDD) v3.03c and v3.03d standard. The C2C Interface may be between to traffic management centers or any two centers that need to coordinate (regionally or locally) the management of a corridor, arterial, incident mitigation, event management and more.

Using the TPG and C2C RI tools will reduce developmental risks, effort, and cost; and provide consistent interpretation of the implemented standards, which in turn will encourage the deployment of interoperable NTCIP C2F and C2C systems. This webinar will introduce the tools, discuss the benefits of using the tools, and describe real world experience of users and their projects and the use of the tools by Standards Development Organizations.

Sponsored by the USDOT Intelligent Transportation Systems Joint Program Office (ITS JPO) the ITS Standards Program encourages the widespread use of ITS technologies in our Nation's surface transportation systems. ITS standards exist within technologies deployed under the framework of the National ITS Reference Architecture, also known as ARC-IT and define how system components interconnect and interact. Because ITS standards are based on open, non-proprietary technology, their use can facilitate the deployment of interoperable ITS systems and make it easier for state and local ITS deployers to develop and deploy regionally integrated transportation systems. The ITS Standards Program is teaming with standards development organizations (SDOs) to accelerate the development and testing of nearly 100, consensus-based, ITS standards while working with state and local highway and transit agencies on standards-based ITS implementation strategies.
